Relying on remote workers was always scary for a lot of businesses; particularly small businesses. The fear stems from a lack of control, whether it be monitoring security or productivity. This is why, before the pandemic, you saw a lot of businesses limit or disallow the practice completely. Today, however, most organizations have a completely different view of remote work. It literally saved many businesses.
How did it do that? Well, there are a few ways that cloud computing has made the shift to remote possible. Today, we'll go through a few.
The first major benefit that cloud computing gives to a business is a boost to collaboration. Using cloud platforms, employees can collaborate like they were side-by-side even if they are on opposite ends of the world. With an Internet connection, access to files is literally a click away.
Additionally, cloud-hosted collaboration apps often have integrated communications tools that make it possible to work on files together while simultaneously having a conversation about the work. This cooperative boost improves productivity, efficiency, and project turnaround. Doing all that without having to be in the same location makes cloud collaboration a strategy that is not likely to go anyplace anytime soon.
One of the biggest points of contention that remote workers have is that they need to remotely access the applications and data they need and that can put a strain on a business' computing demands. Cloud computing allows businesses to utilize hosted applications and data storage that allows for the complete mobility of their workforce. With a simple login (and usually a two-factor authentication), employees have full access to the applications they need to be productive, the data storage necessary to support their work, and as mentioned earlier, collaboration options required to get things moving.
For the remote team, cloud platforms are really great. Anytime, anywhere access can really present them with some work flexibility that other platforms wouldn't. For the business, the flexibility comes from the ability to structure their IT to their workforce. Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) provides businesses a new ability to move faster by only paying per user per app. This takes a lot of the cost concerns off the deployment of software. What's more, cloud apps can be cancelled at any time giving businesses more flexibility over what projects they choose to undertake.
